Tim Scott
Senior Minister
Tim lives and breathes Iowa. He was born and raised in the state, and naturally has stepped into the role of outreach to the Quad Cities community. Tim directs projects to energize members to reach out to Love God and Love Others. He preaches, teaches, plans, and guides at BCC. He stirs people to be more spiritually hungry, and grow in the love and knowledge of Christ. He wants members to be totally involved in the needs of the QC community.
After surrendering his life to Christ after high school, Tim now describes his relationship with Christ as belonging to him personally, professionally, and permanently.
In the past, Tim has directed a YMCA, managed a commerical business, and was an entrepreneur for two start-ups (one of which, a professional piano tuning and repair business, is still in existence). Along with his business work, Tim holds degrees from Ozark Christian College and Liberty University. Tim and his wife Julie have 4 children, and he has played or coached many sports. He has followed his father and brothers in the vocation of full-time ministry, and joined BCC in 2007.
Bryan Shelley
Junior High and High Shool Minister
Bryan works with all of the junior and senior high students in every way possible – from teaching Sunday school to leading Encounter on Sunday nights and being instrumental in anything involving the youth at BCC. He also coordinates the volunteers who are passionate about leading the next generation. Being very involved with the students, you can often find Bryan at their sporting events and extra curricular activities, cheering them on.
After graduating from Kentucky Christian University in 2006, Bryan jumped in head first at BCC. He works to see a church community that supports the next generation, and that is 100% focused on transforming the community we live in. He met his wife Hannah at KCU, and they have a daughter, Adelyn. Originally from Cincinnati, he is a huge fan of the city's sports – the Bengals, Reds, and Bearcats.
Shane Sikkema
Worship and Young Adult Minister
Shane is no stranger to music. When he was younger, he lost interest in playing the trumpet after discovering his grandfather's vintage Gibson guitar. During college, he played around the Midwest with a pop-punk band. He didn't know it at the time, but the Lord was using the many years invested in music to prepare him for his ministry at BCC. He joined the staff in 2008, after working for four years as a graphic designer in the Quad Cities. He describes our weekly gatherings as "a little bit of heaven, crashing into earth." His hope is that BCC's love, unity and service would be fueled by praise, so the Quad Cities will look to us and see what it means to Love God and Love Others.
Shane also oversees the young adult ministries of BCC. He and his wife have been working with young adults for several years and love connecting with people as they navigate this challenging and pivotal stage of life. Shane and his wife Kelly were married in 2005. He has a bachelor's degree in Computer Graphic Design, and completed his Master of Divinity degree from Lincoln Christian Seminary in 2010. He loves playing disc golf and soccer.
Ted Brown
Director of Children's Ministry
Ted joined the staff of BCC in 2005, when he, his wife Janet, and their family returned from helping to plant a church in the Philippines. He grew up in North Carolina, and before working in the church, worked mostly in industrial metals.
At BCC, Ted directs the children's ministries (from birth to 6th grade). When people find that God has called them to work with kids at BCC, it's his job to find the right ministry fit for them, and provide training to help them be successful. This covers numerous areas (worship services, Sunday school, vacation Bible school, summer camp, and other large events). He sees BCC as a place where we are sharpening our desires and expanding our abilities to connect kids to Christ, raising a generation of Christians who follow Him with all their hearts.
Ted grew up going to church, but turned away from Christ at the age of 16. After many months of a challenge to study the Bible, coupled with reading Josh McDowell's "Evidence that Demands a Verdict," Ted was saved by the grace of God at age 20. He and his wife Janet have been part of BCC since 1994.
Ray McMillin
Connections Ministry Coordinator
Ray served BCC as an elder for over 20 years before joining the staff in 2007. He first accepted Christ at Billy Graham's only Omaha, Nebraska crusade, and he and his wife Linda joined BCC in 1980. In 2006, Ray retired from a career in government civilian service.
If you want to get plugged in at BCC, Ray is one of the first people you'll talk to. He provides guests with information about becoming Christians or joining this church family, and connects members and guests with ministries that fit their interests and skills. His goal is to help people connect personally with God through His Word and through prayer.
Ray and Linda have been married over 40 years, and have three children and six grandchildren. He enjoys singing, mystery novels, weekend vacations and Italian food.
Lori Sturtzer
Small Groups and Bible Studies Director
Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Lori has worked as a technical writer, and a Public Relations professional. After she met her husband Bud, his job moved them to many different cities. She has been on staff since 2007.
Lori's position with BCC includes connecting people with small groups, and working with the ministers to develop sermon-based group discussions, helping the church family dig deeper into the sermon and apply it to their lives. She also coordinates the adult education classes and Bible studies that meet throughout the week. Her goal is to see every adult at BCC connected to a small group or Bible study, growing deeper in the Lord's word.
Lori and Bud have been married for almost 20 years. They have 3 children, and she spends a lot of time being a swim mom and hockey mom, at meets and rinks.
Janine Sunderman
Christian Education Director
Janine has a background in education, having taught children with special needs at the elementary level for eight years. At BCC, she is responsible for recruiting and training teachers and staffing the classrooms for all of the Saturday night and Sunday morning kids classes (nursery through 6th grade). Janine is also responsible for curriculum selection, student placement, and classroom set-up. She works closely with the Shepherd's Watch ministry team, ensuring the children are safe and the teachers are thoroughly screened and background-checked before being placed in classrooms.
She is passionate about younger kids participating in worship that is age-appropriate, fun, and engaging. She wants to see families learn and grow together with family devotions, prayer, service projects, and other creative ideas that involve all ages.
Janine and her husband Kirk have three children. She loves to read, scrapbook, play the piano, travel, and attend their kids' school and sporting events.
Harold Pope
Minister of Counseling
Harold grew up in Casper, Wyoming, where his father was the pastor of Casper Fellowship Church. Throughout the years, Harold served as the youth leader, sang in the choir, and was in the downtown street ministry.
He accepted Christ into his life at a revival when he was eight years old. Billy Willard, an evangelist, was speaking on Hell, and Harold went forward, accepted Christ, and was baptized.
Currently, Harold serves as the Minister of Counseling, and occasionally preaches. He opens one of the Sunday morning services each week, and also does hospital and shut-in visitations. Harold sees revival and growth coming to BCC, and is excited about what the Lord has in store for our future.
Harold and his wife Joan have traveled to 48 states and 22 countries, and enjoy Olive Garden, Biaggi's, Chinese food and Papa Muphy's pizza. They have three children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Harold also delights in fishing trips to Canada with his family.
Karl Roberts
Minister Emeritus
Karl ministered at BCC for 40 years, but has been serving in churches since 1961, when he started as the youth minister at Elm Street Christian Church in Olney, Illinois. He graduated from Lincoln Christian College in 1965.
Karl retired from BCC in April of 2011 and now serves as Minister Emeritus. He oversees the Young at Heart group, the Boomer's group, Care and Share, a men's Bible study, and a prayer group. He also preaches at Atalissa Church of Christ in Atalissa, Iowa. He sees BCC as a soul-winning station, where people know God's Word, and Christians grow unto the fullness and stature of Jesus Christ.
Karl was raised in a God-fearing home by Russell and Anna Jane Roberts. He gave his life to Christ at a revival meeting in 1950 and never turned back. He decided in 1959 to give his life to full-time Christian service and become a minister. He and his wife Sharon have three children and five grandchildren.
